EGHS Snubbed in US News & World Report Rankings

The school scored better than many others in most categories but still was lumped in with the rest of the state.

EGHS Snubbed in US News & World Report Rankings
US News & World Report  released its annual report of the nation's top high schools Tuesday and East Greenwich High School was excluded from the list of top five Rhode Island public schools.

Barrington High School was ranked No. 1.

The report found:
  • East Greenwich High School has a 13:1 student-to-teacher ratio (state average was 12:1)
  • Its "college readiness" score was 35.3 out of 100 - significantly above the state average.
  • 64 percent of students were proficient in math
  • 91 percent of students were proficient in English
The rankings show that East Greenwich High School students score much higher than most of their peers in the state and the school does a better than average job readying students for college.

In fact, East Greenwich scored higher than Rhode Island's fifth-ranked school, Middletown High School, in every category, which shows that the rankings by US News and World Report aren't just based on raw numbers.

What do you think of the rankings?
