Mother Accused of Hosting Underage Drinking Party Pleads Not Guilty
Jayne Donegan faces charges under the state's social host law.
Jayne Donegan is facing charges under the state's social host law for a p arty she allegedly held at her home on Jan. 25 where nearly 100 teenagers from North Kingstown and East Greenwich were present. According to police reports, the party was held for Donegan's daughter's 16th birthday.
Donegan pleaded not guilty to all charges against her, including a charge of assaulting an officer who came to her door. According to Donegan's attorney, it was the officer who burst in to her home and shoved her.
"The officer then pushed his way in and pushed her across the foyer. I haven't seen a witness statement yet that says that Jayne Donegan permitted alcohol to be served in her home or that she allowed it and saw it openly," said her attorney.
Members of the North Kingstown Police Department maintain that Donegan slammed the door on officers and was not cooperative with police's efforts. According to police reports, several teenagers were intoxicated at the party - including two teenagers who had to be brought to area hospitals for treatment.
Donegan served on the East Greenwich School Committee in the early 2000s.
She is due back in court on Feb. 25.
