Johnston Mobster Gets 4 Years

Alfred “Chippy” Scivola, Jr. was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for shaking down Providence strip clubs.

Johnston Mobster Gets 4 Years

Alfred “Chippy” Scivola, Jr., 71, of Johnston, an admitted member of the New England La Cosa Nostra, was sentenced today to 46 months in federal prison for his role in a racketeering and extortion conspiracy to shakedown Providence-area adult entertainment businesses for protection money, the FBI announced Thursday.

U.S. District Court Judge William E. Smith also sentenced Scivola to serve three years of probation after his imprisonment. Scivola pleaded guilty on March 3 to conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise.

Scivola admitted to a conspiracy with other members of the organized crime syndicate to demand and collect cash protection payments from several adult entertainment businesses in Providence. The enterprise collected between $800,000 and $1,500,000, according to an FBI release.

Scivola also admitted that he was a member of the NELCN.

Seven of the nine defendants involved in the conspiracy — including admitted longtime former NELCN underboss and boss Luigi Manocchio — have pleaded guilty.  Manocchio was sentenced on May 11 to 66 months in federal prison
