'Kids Reading Across RI' Starts Tomorrow with Kick-Off at State House

Tomorrow afternoon at the State House, the Rhode Island Office of Library & Information Services is scheduled to host its 3rd Annual Kids Reading Across Rhode Island Kickoff Celebration, featuring Gail Carson Levine, author of Dave at Night.

The event marks the official beginning of the summer reading season, and this year's celebration features shows by Carmela Cannata and Rose Adler's Performing Conures — more commonly known as parrots — and exhibitions by the RI Museum of Science and Art and woodworker John Magnan.

Saturday's free celebration is scheduled for 1 to 4 pm. Free parking is available in State of RI lots near the State House on Smith Street.

Libraries around the state — including — are taking part in the summer program by scheduling events of their own over the next two months.

On June 28, Mohr Library is scheduled to host Bjorn the Magician, a/k/a John Slack, who brings his unique brand of nonstop comedy for all ages, starting at 6:30 pm. Free tickets offered starting June 25.
