Driver 3 Times Over Legal Limit Arrested
A 23-year-old Middletown woman was arrested Wednesday around 10 p.m. for driving with a BAC of nearly 3 times the legal limit, said Newport police.

Alyssa Melson, of 411 Semmes St., Middletown, was pulled over after police observed her driving erratically on Connell Highway in Newport.

When asked where she was coming from, she reportedly said Delaware, and then changed her answer to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting, said police. Police said they found two empty nip sized bottles of vodka on the passenger seat. Police said when she got out of the car for the field sobriety tests, she switched from crying to laughing uncontrollably.

At the station, Melson registered a BAC .219 and a .235.  She was charged with driving under the influence .15 or greater.
