Local Man Pleads In Drug Possession Case

Suspect was found last fall attempting to hide from South Kingstown Police in a nearby river.

A South Kingstown man has been sentenced in a case of drug possession that left him soaking wet last fall.

Dylan Harris, 19, of 2220 Post Road in South Kignstown pleaded no contest to an amended charge of possession of a controlled substances on September 24, 2010. Harris was arrested in 2010 after South Kingstown Police officers investigating a suspicious vehicle in the Riverside Cemetery in Wakefield found him attempting to hide chest-deep in a nearby river. A search of his person yielded several pills, later identified as oxycontin.

After retrieving him from the river police found oxycodone pills on his person. On Monday, May 9 Superior Court Judge William Carnes sentenced Harris to serve one year of probation.
