Rep. Teresa Tanzi (D-Dist. 34, South Kingstown, Narragansett) will join Wakefield Elementary School students tomorrow in celebrating International Walk to School Day.

The event will include a parade of children who walk or bike to school that day, as well as the unveiling of two new bicycle racks acquired through a legislative grant secured by Tanzi. The media is invited to attend, and the event will take place rain or shine.

Participating students are being asked to gather in the municipal parking lot behind Main Street, across the river from the school, by 8:15 a.m. From there, a parade of students on foot and bicycle will cross the river via the footbridge, departing at 8:20 a.m.

The students will have a banner, and there will be medals and stickers provided by the Audubon Society of Rhode Island. Instead of the school’s usual indoor morning gathering, students will gather outdoors for a ceremony led by Principal Lynn Dougherty, weather permitting.

The event will mark the beginning of Walk or Bike to School Wednesdays.
