Bowers "Was Doing Something She Loved," University Says
The University of Vermont today notified its community that Kendra Bowers, the 19-year-old Newport native who died after a skiing accident at Sugarbush Resort on Friday, was a student studying the environment and "doing what she loved."

In a statement, university officials said Bowers was surrounded by friends and family at the time of the accident and described her as an active member of the university community.

A sophomore in the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Sciences, Bowers was an active member of the Zest A Cappella student group and a member of the Health and Wellness Residential Learning Community.

"We extend our deepest condolences to Kendra's family. Our sincere thoughts of care and sympathy are also extended to Kendra's friends and to faculty and staff who were close to her," the statement read.

The school urged anyone who needs support at this time of tragedy to contact UVM's Counseling and Psychiatry Services.

UVM said information about campus and family services will be announced at a future time.
