Salve Student Arrested for Underage Possession of Alcohol

Troy W. Ochoa, 19, of 125 Silverbirch Road, Longmeadow, MA, was arrested around 9:05 p.m. on Thursday for possession of alcohol by a minor.

Police were monitoring Vicker's Liquor and saw the driver enter the store while two people stayed in the car. After they drove off, the interior light was on and officers observed the passengers handling something. They followed them to Salve Regina University's campus and the driver was able to drive off before police could detain him.

Officers detained Ochoa and the other passenger, who had no alcohol on him. Ochoa said he had nothing in his backpack. According to reports, police felt a tall round bottle in the backpack which they later confirmed as alcohol with a Vicker's price tag. Ochoa said he had it in his room, but upon further questioning said William Smiley, another Salve student, purchased it for him at Vickers. He was issued a summons. Police are still investigating Smiley's whereabouts.
