Newporters - It's Time to Volunteer for One of 12 Earth Day Cleanup Events

Do you lament litter? Love the earth? It's time to walk the walk and sign up for a Newport Clean City Program Earth Day cleanup event.

Earth Day is coming up on April 22, but Newport is celebrating environmental stewardship and civic pride through April with a dozen cleanup events across the city.

Volunteers are needed to help out. Come pick up trash with your fellow citizens.

  • Saturday, April 18th – Save The Bay & Pruitt Chiropractic invite you to help clean up Easton’s Beach, 175 Memorial Blvd. from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. To volunteer, contact Save The Bay in advance at jlewis@savebay.org or (401)272-3540 x130. Volunteers should dress for the weather, including sturdy closed-toed shoes, which are required. Please bring your own water bottle; bags, gloves, bug and sun protection will be provided.
  • Saturday, April 18th – Newport County Salt Water Fishing Club will be cleaning areas of Fort Adams from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers meet at entrance of Fort. Contact (401)849-6121 for details.
  • Wednesday, April 22nd – Aquidneck Land Trust & St. Michaels School will be cleaning Miantonomi Park from 10 am. to 12 p.m., one of the Land Trust’s conserved areas. Contact Alex Chuman at achuman@ailt.org or (401)617-6668 for details.

  • Saturday, April 18th – Clean Ocean Access will be cleaning Gull Cove Fishing Area from 12PM to 2PM. Wear boots or sturdy shoes.
  • Wednesday, April 22nd – Clean Ocean Access will be cleaning the Cliff Walk from 10AM to 12PM. Meet at Marine Avenue Beach. Wear boots or sturdy shoes.
  • Saturday, April 25th – Clean Ocean Access will be cleaning Fort Adams State Park from 12PM to 2PM. Wear boots or sturdy shoes.
  • Saturday, April 25th – Clean Ocean Access will be cleaning Brenton Point State Park from 12PM to 2PM. Wear boots or sturdy shoes.
  • Saturday, April 25th – The Off Broadway Neighborhood Association invite you to help clean up the Off Broadway neighborhood and Equality Park. Please meet at Equality Park at 9am. For details and to volunteer, contact Ellen Nichols at (401)864-0372.
  • Saturday, April 25th – NewportRIRocks invites you to join them in cleaning up Morton Park & the surrounding areas from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. To volunteer, contact Melody Mulcahey at (401)692-2528 or newportrirocks@gmail.com.
  • Saturday, April 25th - Old Colony & Newport Railway will be cleaning up along the railway, where they run scenic, narrated train trips. To volunteer, please contact Jack Doyle at (401)525-6735.
  • Saturday, April 25th - The Point Association will meet at both Battery and Storer Parks at 9 a.m. Once gathered, work groups will blanket the Point, cleaning parks, driftways, beach areas, Hunter Park area and east to Arnold Park at the corner of Cross, Bridge, and Upper Thames.   • Saturday, April 25th – The Friends of the Waterfront invites volunteers to join them in the annual Earth Day Cleanup at King Park from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Contact Johanna Vietry at Info@NewportWaterfront.org or (765)307-1216.
  • Saturday, April 25th - Friends of Ballard Park will be holding an Earth Day cleanup at 9 a.m., followed by a free guided tour of the park at 11 a.m. To volunteer or RSVP for a tour, contact info@ballardpark.org or (401)619-3377. Volunteers should wear sturdy footwear, as park trails can be muddy.

Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation is waiving all disposal fees associated with litter collected during Earth Day cleanups.
