Early Morning Fire Displaces Family on Railroad Avenue: Busy Week for NK Fire Department
Firefighters were still at the scene at 8:30 Wednesday morning, the chief's office said.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI—An early morning fire sent a Railroad Avenue family out of their home. The fire was knocked down without injuries, according to Chief Scott Kettelle, but the fire department was still at the scene at 8:30 Wednesday morning, a spokeswoman in the chief's office said.

Chief Kettelle said the call came into the fire station at 3:25 a.m. Wednesday.
"North Kingstown sent five engines, a rescue and the deputy chief," he said. "We had mutual aid from South Kingstown." The University of Rhode Island sent a ladder truck. Also, Narragansett, East Greenwich and Warwick provided station coverage.

The fire was under control in 45 minutes, he said. No one was hurt, and no pets were hurt. The cause is under investigation.
The American Red Cross is helping the family by providing assistance to meet their immediate needs, the organization said.
This was the second Slocum District fire since Monday, the chief said. On Monday morning at 9:46 a.m., firefighters responded to 214 Fieldstone Lane for a fully involved car fire. The car was parked next to the home, and the home was also damaged.
The car was a total loss, he said. The cause of that fire is still under investigation, he said, and is complicated by the fact the fire destroyed the evidence in the car.
Exterior siding on the house was damaged, and there was also some smoke damage to the structure, he said.
"We sent five engines, a rescue, and a deputy chief," he said, due to the fact the house was at risk.
Firefighters had that blaze under control in 20 minutes, he said. There were no injuries.
