In the wake of a local church in North Kingstown is looking to help support a grieving community in Newtown.
The First Baptist Church in Wickford is hosting a workshop this Saturday, building bears to be sent to the victims' family and friends. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., members of the church will have a machine on site to help stuff teddy bears (similar to Build-a-Bear Workshop).
All members of the community are invited to attend and "build" a bear, which can be adopted for $10. Each bear will be accompanied by the following poem:
I am a little angel, dressed up as a bear;
I'm cuddly and soft and stuffed with loving care.
Someone filled me with some prayers especially for you;
I am your friend forever more – I'll be here through and through.
So when you're sad or feeling scared please hug me very tight
For when I'm squeezed it makes me strong with magic angel might.
No matter what I'll be right here for hugs and comfort too;
My only Job on this whole earth's to be right here for you.
Adopters will stuff their bear, give it a name and put a star inside to represent their prayers. They can also write a note to accompany the bear.
A member of the church will then deliver the bears directly to Newtown, CT for distribution to the families and friends of Sandy Hook Elementary School.
