What's Open/Closed on Thanksgiving Day?
Rhode Island's blue laws don't allow much to open today. Here's a look at what's open and closed.

If you haven't stocked up on supplies for today, you may need to borrow from neighbors.
Most businesses in Rhode Island are closed today thanks to blue laws established by the Puritans in the 1600s and still followed in Rhode Island today. One of the old laws prohibits stores from doing business on Thansgiving Day. Here's a look at what's open and closed for today:
- Town offices — closed (also closed Friday)
- Post offices — closed.
- Libraries — closed.
- Beechwood Senior Center — closed (also closed Friday).
- Post offices — closed.
- Grocery stores — closed.
- Liquor stores — closed.
- Pharmacies — closed.
- Home Depot — closed.
- Most restaurants and bars — closed.
- West Bay YMCA — open 6-10 a.m.
- Gillian's Ale House — open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
