Legislators Look at Moving Anthony House Bus Stop for Senior Residents

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) has been asked to move this bus stop so residents no longer have to cross a busy street.

Legislators Look at Moving Anthony House Bus Stop for Senior Residents

Several local legislators are looking at moving a bus stop for the elderly residents of  Apartments.

The current stop is located across the street from Anthony House Apartments. Local legislators would like to move this stop to the same side of the street as the assisted-living facility.

Rep. Daniel P. Reilly (R-Dist. 72 Portsmouth, Middletown, Newport) and Senator Christopher Ottiano (R-Dist. 11 Portsmouth, Bristol) have asked the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) to relocate the bus-stop.

An agreement has not been made to date, but RIPTA officials are examining this proposal.

“The relocation of the bus stop is a small project for RIPTA, but a very big deal to those who rely on public transportation who will have a safer and more convenient experience going forward,” said Senator Ottiano.

A meeting will be held Monday, Jan. 23, at 4 p.m. at Anthony House for residents to voice their concerns and express their opinions on this move.

Rep. Reilly, Sen. Ottiano and officials from RIPTA are expected to attend.
