Portsmouth Mom Files Complaint of Bodysurfer Targeting Children

The and Sachuest Point beach lifeguards are on the lookout for a teen boy who allegedly crashed into other youths repeatedly while bodysurfing to touch them inappropriately.

On Tuesday around 4 p.m., Middletown police were called to investigate the incident at after parents notified lifeguards, who in turn notified beach management and local police, according to Middletown Police Detective Lt. John Dring.

By the time investigators arrived, the suspect had left and could not be found, he said.

The youths who reported the incident ranged in age from 11 to 13, according to police.

A Portsmouth woman who contacted Middletown Patch said the incident involved one of her children, a male, and two children from two other families. She said the suspect had put his hands down their bathing suits when he crashed into them. Each of the three families filed complaints, she said.

The woman said she wanted to alert other parents to be on the lookout at all the area beaches throughout Aquidneck Island.

Due to the ongoing investigation, Middletown police have released only a limited description of the suspect and described him as being approximately 15 years of age and male.

Middletown Police also have provided a more thorough description of the suspect to all beach lifeguards, staff and management so they may notify police in the event the suspect returns, Lt. Dring said.

“This appears to be an isolated incident. There were no other reports of anything even similar to this on Second Beach this summer,” Lt. Dring said.

Anyone who observes suspicious behavior at the beaches are encouraged to call the Middletown Police Department at 401-846-1144.
