Described as a "tragic" ruling by Dorchester County Republican Party Chair, candidates and county parties across the state reeling from the S.C. Supreme Court's decision earlier this week, which suddenly made many candidates ineligible to run.
According to the county's GOP and Democratic party, only one candidate failed to meet eligibility requirements: John Mondo, running for House District 102 in the upper part of Dorchester County.
All other candidates are safe, according to Republican Chair and County Council candidate Carroll Duncan and Democratic Chair Richard Hayes.
Statewide more than 85 Republicans and 90 Democrats are in danger of not appearing on the June primary ballots. .
On Wednesday, the S.C. Supreme Court called for that went unmet by many first-time candidates when they filed to run in March. Parties had until noon Friday to provide the State Election Commission with a list of candidates who properly filed a statement of economic interest with their campaign filing forms.
