📰 News we're reading

1. Alabaster residents shocked by higher sewer bills (wbrc.com) — Alabaster homeowners are seeing sewer bills jump by $100 or more after the city took over the water board and removed a long‑standing usage cap to fund infrastructure and PFAS cleanup. City officials say most residents won’t hit the new rates, but high‑usage households with pools and extensive landscaping are feeling the pinch and pressing the council for adjustments.

2. ACS honors Misty Johnson for years of service to BOE (shelbycountyreporter.com) — Alabaster City Schools is honoring longtime Board of Education member Misty Johnson for her financial expertise and leadership in creating the ACS Champions Craft Academy, which now serves hundreds of local students. Johnson is stepping down, and Alabaster resident Jamie Parker will take her place on the board starting with the June 8 meeting, marking an important leadership transition for local families.

3. Los Lonely Boys perform in Alabaster for Siluria Sounds conc... (shelbycountyreporter.com) — Alabaster’s new amphitheater is staying busy with the Siluria Sounds concert series, which returns July 18 and continues with shows in August and October. City staff and sponsors helped pull off a successful Los Lonely Boys performance, and organizers are tweaking logistics based on feedback. The series will pause in June to make way for Alabaster CityFest 2026 at Thompson High School.

4. Huntingdon College Announces the Class of 2026 (huntingdon.edu) — Two standout students from Alabaster, Lizzy Lancaster and Jackson Pickering, earned top academic honors as Huntingdon College celebrated its Class of 2026 in Montgomery. Several other graduates from Alabaster and across Alabama received degrees and Latin honors, highlighting local academic achievement that families and neighbors here can be proud of.
