Anniston Opens Applications for $750,000 Historic Revitalization Program (weisradio.com) — Anniston property and business owners can now apply for substantial matching grants to fix up and reuse historic downtown commercial buildings through a new $750,000 Building Improvement Grant program. With five funding tiers and a required 50% match, projects in the Downtown Anniston and West 15th Main Street districts can target preservation, structural repairs, and upper-floor housing, but work must wait until applications are approved.
   

2. 2 killed, 2 injured in Conecuh County crash, authorities say (wsfa.com) — A 19-year-old driver from Anniston, Dalton G. Dustin, was one of two people killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning on U.S. 31 near Evergreen in Conecuh County. Authorities say neither driver nor two injured passengers from Eastaboga and Ranburne were wearing seat belts, and the wreck temporarily shut down U.S. 31 and U.S. 84 while troopers investigated.
   

3. Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – AGT-1500 Engines (state.gov) — Honeywell’s work at Anniston Army Depot could see a boost if a proposed $750 million U.S. sale of AGT-1500 tank engines to Saudi Arabia moves forward. The State Department has approved the potential deal, which would rely on Honeywell in Anniston as the principal contractor without affecting U.S. defense readiness.
   

4. U.S. Army seeks faster rail repairs to speed up deployments (defence-blog.com) — Army logistics leaders recently met at Anniston Army Depot to tackle long-standing problems in the military’s rail network, which moves tanks and heavy equipment to ports. Their plan focuses on faster repairs, better tracking of rail readiness, and improved staffing, using streamlined federal contracts to cut repair timelines roughly in half.
   

5. Doug Jones bringing veteran-focused town hall to Anniston (alreporter.com) — Anniston residents can hear from gubernatorial candidate Doug Jones at a veteran-focused town hall Tuesday, Sept. 8, 5:30 p.m., at the Anniston City Meeting Center. Jones plans to discuss health care, benefits, and career opportunities for veterans and military families, and invites community members of all political stripes to attend and ask questions.
