The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette is seeking more records on the project, which could significantly affect West Memphis’s economy and utilities. The newspaper has until July 6 to respond.

West Memphis officer arrested on domestic battery charges (wreg.com) — A West Memphis police officer has been arrested in Memphis on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge and has been relieved of duty while the case is reviewed. The West Memphis Police Department says both a criminal case and internal investigation are underway. Leaders emphasize they are focused on community trust but will not comment further until more verified details are available.

3. 31 sex offenders arrested in Pine Bluff, West Memphis police operations (kark.com) — West Memphis was the focus of Operation Trident, where law enforcement arrested 30 people, including 25 accused of failing to follow Arkansas sex offender registration rules. Combined with a related Pine Bluff sweep, 47 suspects tied to child-related crimes and fugitives were taken into custody. Officials say multiple agencies worked together to target offenders across eastern Arkansas.

U.S. Marshals arrest Arkansas fugitive in this West Tennessee community (talknwesttn.com) — Charges tied to West Memphis’ Operation Trident led U.S. Marshals to track down a Tennessee man accused of online sex crimes involving a child. Authorities say he was arrested in Henderson County, Tennessee, and will face extradition to Arkansas. The case highlights ongoing cooperation between West Memphis police, federal agents, and neighboring states to pursue fugitives.

Annie Mae (Welch) Carlton, 85, Norfork (Conner) (ktlo.com) — West Memphis readers may remember Annie Mae Welch Carlton, who was born in the city and graduated as valedictorian from West Memphis High School in 1958. Her family has announced a memorial service in Norfork on July 4, welcoming all who wish to pay their respects to her long, faith-filled life and large extended family.
