1. Cod bless Costa Mesa — the Lions Club's annual Fish Fry & Carnival is this weekend (latimes.com subscription) — Costa Mesa’s Lions Park is hosting the 80th Costa Mesa-Newport Harbor Lions Club Fish Fry and Carnival all weekend, with free admission and $15 cod dinners. Residents can enjoy rides, games, live entertainment, a beer and wine garden, and community booths today and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 570 18th St.
   

2. New exhibitions open during season of change at Costa Mesa museum (latimes.com subscription) — Costa Mesa’s UC Irvine Langson Orange County Museum of Art is unveiling “Staging California in Early Hollywood,” exploring how plein air painters shaped classic film backdrops, now on view through Oct. 4. Following UCI’s takeover and the museum merger, the expanded show pairs historic scenic art with contemporary works, giving local visitors a fresh look at California’s cinematic landscapes.
   

3. NWSA Leadership Award; Schooners & Classics; Moonlighting Sailing (latitude38.com) — Costa Mesa is highlighted through Karen Prioleau’s long service teaching offshore sailing at Orange Coast College, experience that helped earn her a national women’s sailing leadership award. The piece also previews classic yacht regattas and encourages sailors to enjoy a full-moon Bay cruise, offering inspiration for local and regional sailing enthusiasts.
   

4. Newport Beach partners with Huntington Beach for shelter bed space (latimes.com subscription) — Newport Beach is ending its use of the Costa Mesa Bridge Shelter and shifting to 10 beds at Huntington Beach’s Navigation Center, a move officials say will save about $1 million annually. The change follows a sharp drop in Newport’s street homelessness and tougher anti-camping rules, and will end the city’s remaining Costa Mesa bed access after June 30.
