Stoplight to be part of temporary pedestrian crossing near Whetstone (crestedbuttenews.com) — Drivers between Gunnison and Crested Butte should expect a temporary stoplight, lower 40 mph speed limit, and new crosswalk near the Whetstone Community Housing site on Highway 135 starting in January. Gunnison County and Crested Butte officials chose a HAWK pedestrian signal as a short-term safety fix until a roundabout and underpass are built in 2027, aiming to protect bus riders and new residents.
   

2. CB South Metro sues county over CBS road ownership (crestedbuttenews.com) — Gunnison County residents should know that the Crested Butte South Metropolitan District has sued the county over who owns and must maintain CB South’s roads, while also formally opposing county ballot measure 1A for a road-and-bridge sales tax. County officials say they’ve long helped with plowing and funding but never assumed full responsibility, and both sides may head to mediation even as voters decide 1A on November 3.
   

3. Gunnison city and county talk corridor plan (gunnisontimes.com) — Gunnison city and county leaders are working together on a Gunnison-to-Mt. Crested Butte corridor plan that will shape future housing, transportation, and land use in the valley. Officials emphasized water conservation, mixed‑income neighborhoods, and better transit so residents can live closer to work and school, aiming to keep long‑time Gunnison families and new arrivals able to call the valley home.
   

4. Solar-powered ski lifts? (durangotelegraph.com) — Gunnison County Electric Association, which serves the Crested Butte ski area, plans to buy power from a major new solar-and-battery project near Cortez that could boost renewable energy on our local grid by 2030. The co-op recently added its own solar array and already taps the Oh Be Joyful Solar project and Taylor River hydro, moves expected to cut emissions and help stabilize member rates.
