His family, Derby ambulance colleagues, and neighboring fire departments in Ansonia and Shelton have rallied with fundraisers and ongoing support as he faces months of recovery and lifelong anti-rejection medication.
   

2. Big Y launches annual Partners of Hope breast cancer campaign (wwlp.com) — Derby residents who shop at Big Y can support Griffin Hospital’s Breast Wellness Program simply by buying $1 paper ribbons through October 21. The supermarket chain’s Partners of Hope campaign funds breast cancer care and support at 32 organizations across Connecticut and Massachusetts, including the Derby program that helps local patients with transportation, parking, and treatment-related needs.

Trumbull Man Arrested After Shelton Armed Robbery (newhavenindependent.org) — A Trumbull man is being held on a $750,000 bond after Shelton police said he robbed the In & Out Mini Market on Howe Avenue at gunpoint. Investigators later arrested him and recovered cash and a facsimile firearm, and his case is now headed to Superior Court in Derby, tying the legal proceedings directly to local residents’ courthouse.
   

4. Lamont Directs Flags To Half-Staff Tomorrow For Connecticut DOT Employee Elvin Hernandez (newtownbee.com) — A Derby resident, Edward Myers, is charged in connection with the crash that killed state DOT worker Elvin Hernandez on I‑95 in Fairfield, prompting Governor Lamont to order flags at half‑staff statewide on October 2. Authorities say Myers showed signs of impairment, admitted drug use, and now faces serious felony and misdemeanor charges while Hernandez’s family, colleagues, and communities in Bridgeport and Easton prepare to honor his life.
