📰 News we're reading

• Judicial Succession (westfaironline.com) — East Hartford residents now have their own probate judge, Richard Gentile, leading the Hartford Regional Children’s Probate Court located inside the town’s Community Center. His dual role is designed to connect families more quickly with local services like Social Services, Youth Services, WIC, and school registration while handling adoptions, guardianships, and custody cases for East Hartford and dozens of nearby towns.

• CIAC not running June scholastic basketball showcases, but plans to hold similar-type events (greenwichtime.com) — East Hartford boys basketball is among the CIAC programs affected as the organization cancels its June scholastic showcases and shifts toward later-summer events. The change reflects declining participation and the rise of out-of-season coaching, with new showcase dates and locations still to be announced. Local teams may instead attend other regional scholastic tournaments.

• Ex-Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin stuns Rep. John Larson, wins Dem endorsement in race for Congress (ctpost.com) — East Hartford hosted a dramatic Democratic convention where former Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin narrowly beat longtime U.S. Rep. John Larson for the party’s endorsement in the 1st Congressional District race. The upset sets up an August primary featuring Bronin, Larson, and state Rep. Jillian Gilchrest, with another candidate trying to petition onto the ballot.
