New Britain bond rating improves amid reforms following ex-mayor scandal (nhregister.com) — New Britain’s credit rating has just been upgraded by S&P, a change city officials say will lower borrowing costs and support future investments in infrastructure, schools, parks and public safety. Mayor Bobby Sanchez credits stricter budgeting and transparency after concerns over former Mayor Erin Stewart’s spending, and says the improved rating signals stronger long‑term financial health for residents and taxpayers.
   

2. Some CT families got a special surprise to ring in America's 250th birthday. ‘Gallantry' was noted. (courant.com) — New Britain native Cpl. Edmund Dobek’s family just received his long-lost Silver Star and Purple Heart, recovered through Connecticut’s unclaimed property program. At a Hartford ceremony ahead of America’s 250th birthday, officials reunited several Connecticut families with military medals, highlighting both the veterans’ sacrifices and the state’s ongoing effort to return treasured items from abandoned safety deposit boxes.
   

3. FARMINGTON Attorney Timothy Sheehan of Farmington died at his home (newbritainherald.com) — A longtime Farmington attorney with deep New Britain roots has died, with burial planned at St. Mary Cemetery in New Britain and calling hours and Mass in Farmington next week. His obituary warmly recalls growing up and practicing law in New Britain, raising six daughters, and a life filled with family gatherings, travel, opera, and community connections.
   

4. Consumer Counsel Coleman Statement on United Illuminating Rate Increase (ct.gov) — From New Britain, the state’s Consumer Counsel is criticizing a PURA decision that grants United Illuminating about $2 million more in revenue and removes certain penalties, likely raising electric bills through October 2026. The office says it’s reviewing the ruling and stresses that easing penalties may weaken accountability for utilities already serving customers facing high essential costs.
