1. Lewiston fire chief leaving for central Washington post (lmtribune.com) — Lewiston’s fire chief Greg Rightmier is leaving the Lewiston Fire Department at the end of August to become chief of Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue in Ellensburg, Washington. Rightmier, who joined Lewiston in 2021 and became chief in 2023, praised the department’s progress in emergency response, training, and community service.
   

2. Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport to Host TSA Pre-Check Enrollment Event (koze.com) — Lewiston travelers will soon be able to enroll or renew TSA PreCheck at the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport, 406 Burrell Avenue, from August 18–21. U.S. citizens, nationals, and permanent residents can complete most of the application online, then finish with a quick in-person visit where documents, fingerprints, and payment are collected for a five-year membership.
   

3. Bandits Cruise, Runnin' Rebels Splits Opening Day at Legion State Tournament (ground.news) — Lewiston is hosting the AA Idaho American Legion State Tournament, where three Eastern Idaho teams opened play Thursday. The Idaho Falls Bandits started their title defense with a big win over Nampa, while the Post 4 Runnin' Rebels split two games and Idaho Prime advanced to the second round.
   

4. Idaho ranks 3rd in the nation for wage growth, new data shows (ktvb.com) — Lewiston’s metro area is among Idaho’s leaders in job growth, according to new federal wage data. The report shows Idaho ranking third nationally for wage gains, with average and median pay rising across all major metro regions and labor markets. Local workers can compare their own pay to statewide averages and see which occupations are growing fastest.
   

5. Idaho's average gas price jumps 10 cents overnight (rexburgstandardjournal.com) — Lewiston drivers are paying about $4.05 for regular gas, up six cents overnight, as Idaho’s statewide average jumped a steep 10 cents to $4.15. AAA says rising crude oil costs tied to global tensions are pushing prices higher, and encourages motorists to use discounts, apps, and carpooling to save money.
