Moscow unlikely to alter busy school route (lmtribune.com) — Moscow officials signaled they’re unlikely to change Hayes Street, despite parents’ safety concerns about speeding traffic and near-misses near Lena Whitmore Elementary and East City Park routes. After reviewing crash data, speeds, and pedestrian counts, the city is weighing but not committing to requests for lower speed limits, new stop controls, and a pedestrian-activated beacon.
   

2. Schweitzer Engineering Invests Over $500M to Expand U.S. Manufacturing (manufacturing.net) — A new 305,000-square-foot Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories manufacturing plant is coming to Moscow, bringing more than $70 million in investment and significant new production capacity by late 2027. The project is part of SEL’s $500 million, multi-state expansion and is expected to create many new local manufacturing jobs while deepening the company’s long-term presence in Idaho and the region.
   

3. UI names Toelle 4-H youth development director (capitalpress.com) — The University of Idaho has hired longtime 4-H leader Andy Toelle as its new Extension 4-H Youth Development director, and he’ll be based in Moscow starting Nov. 2. With decades of experience in Florida and prior work in Idaho, he plans to listen, learn, and strengthen local youth programs, volunteers, and educators connected to UI’s 4-H efforts.
   

4. Little Brown Stein on the Line in Annual Matchup with #7 Montana (govandals.com) — Idaho Vandal fans in Moscow can gear up for another chapter of the Little Brown Stein rivalry as the team heads to Missoula to face #7 Montana, with the historic trophy on the line. Coming off a landmark win over top-ranked Montana State in Moscow brings a high-powered offense, veteran line, and heavy TV exposure into Saturday’s showdown.
   

5. Moscow Veteran Receives New Roof Through Program Honoring Those Who Served (bigcountrynewsconnection.com) — A Moscow veteran, U.S. Army servicemember Jarrad Dukes, just received a free roof replacement through the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project, with labor donated by Apex Roofing and materials from the Owens Corning Foundation. The nationwide program partners with groups like Purple Heart Homes to thank veterans in tangible ways, and Dukes’ project highlights that support right here in town.
