FRANKLIN, TN — A 31-year-old Franklin man is charged with vehicular homicide after an early morning wreck on Carters Creek Pike Sunday killed his two passengers.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says Jose Julio Fuentes Ramirez was speeding at 4:45 Sunday morning when his car ran off the right side of the road, hitting a ditch and a stand of nearby trees. His two passengers, Gerardo Gonzalez, 24, and Heriberto Torres Aceves, 26, both of Franklin, were killed.

Curtis Nuenke, who lives near the crash site, told The Tennessean that wrecks, particularly those caused by speed, are common along that stretch of Carters Creek Pike.

"It doesn't seem like it's a very curvy, winding road but the speed limit goes from 30 to 40 right here and people get the idea that it's OK to hit the gas when they go ahead and get around this curve, and people speed here quite often." he told the newspaper.
