Austin Fire Cadet Dies Unexpectedly At Fire Academy
Devon Coney had previously worked for the fire department as a civilian employee for four years, according to fire officials.

AUSTIN, TX — An Austin fire cadet died Tuesday evening following an undetermined medical emergency at the Austin Fire Department training academy the previous day, officials said.
Devon Coney had previously worked for the fire department as a civilian employee for four years, fire officials told the Austin American-Statesman.
"Immense sadness over the passing of one of our best and brightest, Devon Coney, who died earlier this evening at a local hospital," fire officials said via Twitter. "Devon’s positive attitude, ever-present kindness and joy, and megawatt smile are just a few of the many things we’ll miss."

It's unclear what caused the young cadet's death.
Austin Police Department Chief Brian Manley expressed his condolences via Twitter: "My heart breaks for our Austin Fire Department family and Devon Coney's family," Manley wrote. "My thoughts and prayers are with all of you."
