Fire Near Austin Airport Sparks Concern

Blaze at a wooded area between Hudson Street and Harold Court engulfed an RV before spreading to a shed, but no injuries resulted.

AUSTIN, TX — Fire crews responded to a structure fire late Saturday morning that prompted alarm given the billowing smoke that could be seen emerging from the site.

On Twitter, fire officials wrote just before 11 a.m. the fire had completely engulfed a recreational vehicle (RV) before spreading to a nearby shed. The blaze was sparked in a wooded area between Hudson Street and Harold Court, according to Austin Fire Department officials.

The amount of smoke was such that it prompted Austin-Bergstrom International Airport officials to issue a tweet of their own, assuring residents the fire was well north of the travel hub. "Austin Fire is responding to an incident a few miles north of the airport, so you may see some smoke in the area if you're heading to the airport today," airport officials wrote. "Operations here at the terminal are unaffected. Have a great Saturday!"

The airport warning was warranted given erroneous speculation from some the blaze was related to airport activity. "Did a plane just blow up or am I trippin?" one Twitter user wrote on Twitter, posting a photo of the billowing smoke from a distance before the post was deleted.

No injuries were reported in the aftermath of the fire. It was not immediately clear what may have caused the conflagration
