Man Dies Days After Hanging Self in Travis County Jail
He had been arrested during a family violence investigation.

A man who had hung himself with items found in his Travis County Jail cell died five days later.
Elijah Ashbey, 21, was arrested Nov. 8 during a faimly violence investigation, reported KEYE. Police told the station that Ashbey had a warrant for felony credit card abuse in McLennan County.
At 2 a.m. on Nov. 10, corrections officers found Ashbey unresponsive in his cell during a routine check, officials said. He was later transported to the hospital by Austin / Travis County EMS, said the Sherriff’s Office. Detectives said that an autopsy report indicated Ashbey hung himself using items found in his cell.

On Nov. 15, five days after he was found unresponsive in his cell, Ahsbey died.
The day he was found, McLennan County withdrew the warrant for Ashbey’s arrest, and he was released from law enforcement custody, making him a “former inmate,” officials said.
