Report Finds Austin, Round Rock To Be Among State's Safest Cities

Police presence in both cities ranks high, with homicide rate in Round Rock negligible to the point it can't be statistically measured.

AUSTIN, TX -- The capital city is among the safest in Texas, despite its status as one of the fastest-growing in the nation.

That's according to a report by the Darrow Law Firm based in Houston. The firm analyzed several key factors, including cities' violent crime rates and police presence. Factors were then put on a scale of 1 to 34, with 1 representing the most dangerous.

Austin ranked 21st on the list, below San Antonio, Houston and Dallas.

The report's authors attribute the city's safety to its police presence, which was given a rank of 33. Only McAllen topped Austin in terms of its police presence.

Of the cities studied, Round Rock emerged as the safest of them all, rated with a score of 34 in its crime rank and 30 for its police presence.

In the detailed findings, Round Rock's homicide rate wasn't even statistically measurable, with 0.0 homicides per 100,000 population recorded.

Austin proper had a homicide rate of 3.54 per 100,000 population.
