Austin Police ID Suspect In Case Of Missing Houston Couple: VIDEO

Harvey Cyphers believed to be last one to see Sidney Taylor and Krislyn Gibson after they visited Austin to attend the Urban Music Festival

EAST AUSTIN, TX -- Police identified a local man as the suspect in the disappearance of a Houston couple who haven't been seen since attending an Austin music festival in April.

In a press advisory issued Friday, police said Harvey Cyphers, 50, is an acquaintance of Sidney Taylor and Krislyn Gibson, both 35 years of age, who traveled to Austin in April to attend the Urban Music Festival. Police said that over the course of 20 hours of searches at Cyphers' Montopolis home, blood and other evidence emerged indicating an attempt was made to clean up a crime scene.

In details released by the police, the Houston couple arrived in Austin on April 1 to attend the music festival. On April 2, the three went to Landing Strip, an exotic dancers club located at 745 U.S. 183. The trio was seen leaving the strip club together at around 2 a.m., police said.

Cell phone records indicate all three of their mobile phones were at Cyphers' home on the morning of April 2 before the telephones were traced in Houston. Three days later, the Houston Police Department notified their Austin counterparts that Taylor's vehicle had been left abandoned in midtown Houston.

Police said personal effects were left in the abandoned vehicle that wouldn't be normally left inside a vehicle if it was to be left behind. Moreover, police said, the car may contain blood and biological evidence.

The car was left near a Megabus pickup site, and phone records indicate Cyphers called the bus company ostensibly to make a reservation for a trip back to Austin. Friends of the missing couple insisted they wouldn't abruptly disappear, especially since both have young children and are gainfully employed.

Cyphers is currently in federal custody, charged with illegal possession of firearms as a convicted felon.

An investigation into the matter continues. Anybody with information -- including anyone who may have traveled on the same Megabus as Cyphers from Houston -- is urged to contact the APD detectives at (512) 974-5250 or Crime Stoppers at (512) 472-TIPS.
