Houston Father of Three is Gunned Down in Attempted Robbery
Police said the father was also armed and shot the would-be robber first, who then returned fire.

HOUSTON, TX -- A young father of three, and a would-be robber were both killed Sunday night after they shot each other during a robbery attempt.
Police said that Manuel Rodriguez, 28, was unloading groceries with his wife and three children at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Crown Garden Apartments, located in the 7000 block of Ashcroft Drive.
Police said that a man armed with a gun came up to Rodriguez and his family as they were unloading groceries, and demanded money.

Rodriguez and the man began to fight, and Rodriguez pulled out a gun and shot the would-be robber several times.
The robber fired back at Rodriguez, hitting him in the chest.

Both men were taken to an area hospital and were both pronounced dead a short time later.
Rodriguez’s wife and children were not injured.
The shooting remains under investigation.
