Protesters Head to Austin To Oppose 'Mexicans Are Lazy' Textbook — Again
The Texas Board of Education is once again considering a textbook that called Mexicans lazy.

HOUSTON, TX — Protesters are once again letting their voices be heard over a controversial textbook that depicts Mexicans as lazy.
More than 100 people loaded buses early Tuesday for a return trip to Austin and the Texas Board of Education to protest consideration of the Mexican American Heritage textbook that many say is discriminatory.
In September, dozens of protesters loaded on buses to express their concerns to the Texas Board of Education on the textbook, published by Momentum Publishing, and cited at least 68 factual errors within the text.

Some of those errors included passages such as: "Mexican laborers were not reared to put in a full day’s work so vigorously. There was a cultural attitude of ‘mañana,’ or ‘tomorrow,’ when it came to high-gear production."
In September, the board rejected the text after more than 100 protesters showed up to speak.

Vice Chairman Thomas Ratcliff, a Mount Pleasant Republican, called the textbook dead on arrival and said, “There is no way in the world that book gets passed by the State Board of Education.”
Momentum Publishing went back and made some changes to the text, but opponents still say the text is discriminatory and should be rejected altogether.
A rally in Austin is expected to begin at 9:30 a.m.
