Construction Site Fire Cause of 'Explosion' in Round Rock

City officials said heavy equipment on fire at a construction site was the cause of the explosion sounds some residents heard.

The Round Rock Fire Department responded to a fire at a construction site near the intersection of Texoma Drive and Palo Duro Loop just after 1 a.m. Saturday.

According to a press release from the city, firefighters were first dispatched to the report of a grass fire around 12:51 a.m., behind the Lodge at Warner Ranch Apartments but were unable to get to the actual incident at the construction site. Upon arrival, firefighters found the fire had spread from a front end loader to a trailer and excavator parked side by side next to the front end loader.
