Dell Laid Off About 10,000 Employees This Year

The Round Rock company did not give details on why so many employees were let go.

Dell has laid off a whopping 10,000 employees over the past fiscal year, but has not really explained why.

The Round Rock-based company buried the mention of their employee purge deep within a 331-page regulatory filing completed Monday, the Austin Business Journal reported.

The report showed Dell ended the fiscal year of 2015 with 98,300 total full-time employees, compared to 108,300 total full-time employees at the end of fiscal 2014. Dell currently has about 13,000 employees in Texas, compared to 14,000 last year.

β€œWe’ve made a number of tough decisions, including workforce reductions,” Dell spokesman David Frink said, according to the Austin Business Journal. β€œAs I’ve said on previous occasions, to protect the privacy of affected team members, we don’t comment on the number of reductions, or specifics within individual Dell businesses or sites.”

In February 2013, Dell was taken private by CEO Michael Dell and Silver Lake Partners. At this time the company said no job cuts were anticipated.
