New open carry laws go into effect Jan. 1.
ROUND ROCK, TX - Texas’ new open carry laws go into effect on Jan.1, and the Round Rock Police Department is working to spread awareness.
The new laws mean firearm owners will be able to carry their guns in a waist or shoulder holster in most areas, current laws say gun owners must conceal their weapons.

Stores like HEB have already banned open carry in anticipation of the new law, and guns will still generally be prohibited in places like courthouses and sporting events.
“Before you call 911 ask yourself: Is the gun our of its holster? Is the person acting reckless, threatening, or a danger to the public? If you see something suspicious call 911. Be #OpenCarryAware,” the video said.
