Round Rock Students Attended Lone Star Leadership Academy Over The Summer

Twenty-three students chosen from among a field of 1.144 statewide in camps designed to learn leadership skills firsthand.

ROUND ROCK, TX -- Students from the Round Rock ISD didn't stop learning over the summer, with 23 of them perfecting their leadership skills in the 2016 Lone Star Leadership Academy campus, district officials said.

"Students were selected to attend one of the Lone Star Leadership Academy camps across Texas, which provided them with the opportunity to learn about state leaders and what it means to be a Texas citizen," district officials said in a prepared statement. "Participants also discussed what they learned, completed problem solving and decision-making simulations, exercised creativity, and practiced presentation skills in Leadership Groups."

The various camps took place in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Galveston, San Antonio and Austin.

"Venues included the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District, the Texas State Capitol, the Bullock Texas State History Museum, the Alamo and NASA. Each site visit also had representatives present to introduce students to a variety of careers."

From across the state, 1,144 students were selected to attend the camps. Students were chosen for the Lone Star Leadership Academy camps based on demonstrated academic success and leadership ability, an educator recommendation, and involvement in school/community activities, district officials said.
