Train Derails In Round Rock, Dumps Gravel Load Roadway

Two train cars toppled over along 4100 block of McNeil Road just after 2 a.m. on Monday, but no gas leak resulted despite initial reports.

ROUND ROCK, TX β€” Fire officials responded to a train derailment early Monday, dumping loads of construction gravel on the roadway, officials said.

Emergency crews responded to the 4100 block of McNeil Road just after 2 a.m. on Monday, where they found two cars had derailed as a result of an equipment malfunction, Round Rock officials wrote on the municipal website.

The cars dumped construction aggregate on the road. Original reports that diesel fuel had leaked as a result of the derailment proved erroneous, city officials said.

One of the train’s locomotives, which was pulling 70 cars, was smoking due overheated oil. It was safely shut down and no injuries were reported as a result of the derailment. officials said.
