The Dave Kline Band to Headline Fundraiser for Local Youth Jazz Performance Group on February 24th, 2017

Local Jazz Artist Headlines Fundraiser for Youth Jazz Group on February 24, 2017 Funds international goodwill travel tours by youth groups

The Dave Kline Band will perform Friday, February 24, 2017 at the Barns at Wolf Trap for a night of jazz, fusion, and folk. His performance will benefit the non-profit Virginia Music Adventures, Inc. (VMA), which supports youth jazz education and performance. At the Barns, Kline will perform along with VMA’s own bands including the Annandale Jazz Ambassadors as they prepare for their Southeast Asia tour in April. Opportunities abound to hear a great night of music and participate in an auction to support these local youth musicians’ tour abroad.

The Dave Kline Band is endorsed by jazz greats such as Multi-Grammy winner Chick Corea, who raves, “Great music, man! Love the new CD ... Great tunes and such warm renditions. I love your musical universe … it's so fresh and creative and so Dave. Good luck with this and keep the music fires burning bright. You know why? Simply because you can! And do it so well.” Blending contemporary sounds of rock, funk, jazz, blues, and folk with timeless cultures of the world such as Caribbean, Latin, European, Middle Eastern, Celtic, African, the combustion of high energy original instrumentals constantly innovate and improvise. The Dave Kline Band has performed for diverse audiences at Gypsy Sally’s, Twins Jazz, Bossa, and other notable area establishments. Festival appearances include the Alexandria Jazz Festival, Petworth Jazz Project, Takoma Park JazzFest, the Manassas Summer Sounds Concert Series, and the Hyattsville Summer Concert Series.

Now in its 38th year, Virginia Music Adventures is a non-profit organization that promotes the preservation of American jazz through performances by exceptional young musicians. VMA teaches young area musicians the rhythms and articulation of jazz in preparation for performances locally and around the world on international good will tours, frequently coordinated with the US Department of State. Each year, approximately 50 young musicians ranging in age from 11-18 develop skills as performers of contemporary jazz and swing-era classics in educational programs during the school year and summer months.

Connecting these young musicians with the Dave Kline band is one of the most exciting opportunities VMA has yet had to offer. A guest musician who uses the world’s great and varied musical traditions to inform his own music meets with a program whose goal is to educate their students in as many cultures as possible through music and travel.

At this benefit gala, performing with and alongside Dave Kline will be Virginia Music Adventures’ Wakefield Jazz Workshop, Chapel Square Combo, and Annandale Jazz Ambassadors. Last year the Annandale Jazz Ambassadors toured Cuba and Miami, offering performances, workshops, and cultural exchange programs to local youth, the elderly, and the general public. Other notable tours have included performances in Brazil, South Africa, the US’ Pacific Coast, Vienna, Hungary, Bratislava, the Republic of Turkey, Moscow, Krasnodar, St. Petersburg, Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Prague, Amsterdam, the Hague, Lima, Cuzco, Quito, Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Hawaii, Washington, DC, and Nassau.
