2016 Fall Foliage in Arlington: Get Ready for a Spectacular November
We're well past the typical foliage peak date for our area, but the unseasonably warm weather has delayed fall colors.
ARLINGTON, VA — The unseasonably warm temperatures have delayed the beautiful autumn colors we've come to expect by now, but the good news is we'll get to enjoy them deep into November before fall gives way to winter.
The latest Fall Foliage Report from the Virginia Department of Forestry notes that while the highest mountains of Southwest Virginia and the Alleghenies are "well past their peak colors," colors are "patchy" in the east, which typically sees autumn colors later than everyone else in the state.
"Nice leaf-viewing in the east will continue well into November," the report states.

Temperatures have been quite high, but trees in the area have slowly been changing into reds, yellows and browns. Unfortunately, the late warmth means that oak trees aren't developing much red pigment, so "expect many oaks to change quickly to brown this year," the report notes.
Weather.com projects the weather in the area to stay in the 60s for the first half of the month, slowly dipping into the 50s later on. So there won't be much of that characteristic fall chill in the next couple weeks, but at least you'll have beautiful weather to enjoy the colorful landscape.
