Here is her letter making her announcement:

Dear AAC Friends,

I want to let you know that I have made the bittersweet, yet exciting, decision to leave my position as Executive Director of the Arlington Art Center (AAC) to lead the Visual Arts Center of Richmond mid-August.

Thank you for the tremendous support you have shown me, the staff, and the artists of AAC over these past four years. It has been an incredible gift to run such a beloved organization, and to present ambitious exhibitions and the best artists in our region to a thoughtful and receptive community. I am very proud of the work AAC has been able to accomplish in such a short amount of time.

In the last four years, AAC launched new programs to support artists in early stages of their careers, drove exceptional growth in our education programs, and pushed our programs beyond the walls of AAC’s beautiful building and into the community.

Starting August 5, Karyn Miller, the current Director of Exhibitions, will assume the role of Acting Executive Director while the board conducts a search for new leadership. The transition of responsibilities has been seamless and the organization is well-positioned under her leadership.

AAC’s talented staff continues to develop ambitious programming. More than 800 students will attend art camps this summer, and last weekend, AAC opened up a new exhibition, PLAY: Tinker, Tech, and Toy. AAC is working with the Ballston BID to present off-site programming and will also be hosting a community picnic with games on Saturday, September 12 from 1-4pm. Please join AAC for these events!

Finally, as I transition to this exciting opportunity in Richmond, I am envisioning all the ways to better connect these two artist communities. I look forward to staying in touch and supporting the future growth of AAC. I hope that you will join me in celebrating this important arts institution!

With gratitude,

Stefanie
