Katelin Akens, 19, of Spotsylvania County, was dropped off at the metro station by her family and was headed to Reagan National Airport to catch a flight, but she never arrived, according to the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office.

Her mother told Richmond’s CBS affiliate that she was dropped off at Springfield Town Centre. “She texted and said she made it there, but we don’t know if that’s true,” Lisa Sullivan told the TV station.
It’s uncertain why her mother told the TV station she was dropped off at the mall but police say she was dropped off at the metro. The metro station is not located at the shopping center and is about a mile away.
On Monday, Akens’ luggage was found in a drainage ditch on River Road in Spotsylvania County near the Fredericksburg city limit, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Capt. Jeff Pearce.
She was expected to return back to college in Arizona at the time of her disappearance, according to a news report.
She is described as being 5’4” tall, 122 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes.
Sheriff Roger L. Harris noted: “The circumstances surrounding this case are suspicious enough to warrant our full investigative efforts, in attempting to locate Miss Akens.”
Anyone with information concerning Akens’ whereabouts can call the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Solvers. The information can be left anonymously.
