Trump Supporters Threaten Bar for Refusing to Host 'DeploraBall': Report

Clarendon Ballroom told organizers of the party, who had already started selling tickets, that they were not getting the venue.

ARLINGTON, VA — Supporters of Donald Trump who were hoping to host a celebratory "DeploraBall" the day before the inauguration at Clarendon Ballroom are reportedly turning to threats after being rebuffed by the Arlington, Virginia, nightclub. Clarendon Ballroom says they began receiving threatening messages after it declined to host the inauguration party put on by Trump supporters.

The name "DeploraBall" is in reference to Hillary Clinton's comment during the campaign that some Trump supporters belong in a "basket of deplorables." DeploraBall organizers say that Clarendon Ballroom caved to Clinton supporters, but the venue's managers say they never had a contract in the first place. The two sides never even met in-person, the venue claims.

"The events of recent days have surprised, shaken, and scared the Clarendon Ballroom family," the nightclub said in a statement. "We are extremely sad to be at the heart of this situation and truly appreciate the outpouring of support we have received."

The statement further denied that the DeploraBall was canceled due to political pressure, and in fact the event had never been booked so there was nothing to cancel.

"On Monday Clarendon Ballroom learned from a tweet that the DeploraBall had sold 500 tickets and that Clarendon Ballroom was listed as the venue," the statement added. "Tuesday evening, a for-profit LLC offered itself as the contracting party and requested a contract. Clarendon Ballroom made the business decision not to issue that contract and severed ties with the organizers."

The threats were so severe that Clarendon Ballroom reportedly reached out to the police for protection. Arlington County Police Department spokeswoman Ashley Savage said they were monitoring the situation.

"We are aware of the harassing communications received by the Clarendon Ballroom," Savage said. "At this time, there are no credible threats. We continue to monitor the situation and work with the Clarendon Ballroom management."

It all started when Washington Post reporter Dan Lamothe tweeted Monday night that Trump fans would be holding the "DeploraBall" at Clarendon Ballroom, with various people from far-right-wing organizations Breitbart and Infowars expected to attend. This prompted the following response the next day from Clarendon Ballroom: "We have no event contracted for this date. This is simply untrue."

Trump supporters, already being criticized fpr their harassment of D.C. pizza joint Comet Ping Pong over a false rumor, quickly turned their anger toward Clarendon Ballroom.

"Time to play hardball, Deplorables," wrote on Twitter user in response. "Publicly shame these filthy hipsters."

"Y'all are so done," added another.

And Clarendon Ballroom said the comments went way beyond that to them personally, prompting them to contact the authorities.

Mike Cernovich, who is often associated with the so-called "alt-right" and white nationalists (a claim he denies), is one of the organizers of the party. Upon hearing the news that Clarendon Ballroom would be denying them the rights to have their party there, he tweeted that the establishment caved to "left-wing harassment."
