Steve Torpy has been selected as the new Director of Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services (PRCS). Torpy has served as the Acting Director of the department since April 2014, following the retirement of former director Diane Ryburn.
“We had a very strong and competitive applicant pool as we conducted a nationwide search for this position. Steve emerged as the best fit for the county,” said County Administrator Tim Hemstreet. “The Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services will continue to provide outstanding recreational and leisure opportunities, and community service programs that benefit our residents.”
Torpy began working in Loudoun County in 1997 as manager of Claude Moor Park before being promoted to Parks Division Manager in 2001. He later became the park’s Assistant Director in 2005 and Deputy Director in 2010.
Torpy will oversee recreation, leisure and community service programs in Loudoun while overseeing Loudoun parks, community, recreation and senior centers, historic sites, a nature preserve and a fine arts center.
“Having worked at the management level in the PRCS Department for many years, I am proud of the excellent team of professionals we have developed in the department,” Torpy said. “I plan to continue to draw on their skills and build on their accomplishments.”
