Loudoun County law enforcement agencies collected more than 800 pounds of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction during the sixth nationwide prescription “Take-Back” initiative over the weekend.
The amount marks the largest collection in Loudoun to date.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Leesburg Police Department and the Town of Purcellville Police Department partnered with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in the initiative to help prevent increased pill abuse and theft. The Virginia State Police also participated.
During the last initiative in 2012, Loudoun County law enforcement agencies collected nearly 600 pounds of prescription drugs.
