Police: Pedestrian Killed Apparently Fleeing Hit and Run
Man was struck crossing Route 7, believed to be passenger in nearby hit-and-run, according to Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies first responded at 6:15 p.m. in the area of Cascades Parkway and Potomac View Road regarding a crash. The incident involved a Honda Civic and a Pontiac Grand Prix.
The Honda was unoccupied, but deputies found two sets of footprints leaving the scene. A search for the occupants ended in the area of Route 7 near a pedestrian fatality.
In the area of Route 7 and Campus Drive, a man believed to be the passenger in the Honda Civic was struck by a car in the center westbound lane around 6:27 p.m. He died at the scene.
"According to witnesses, the victim had been in the company of another male who was trying to cross Route 7 and fled the scene without stopping," according to a Sheriff's Office release. "He has not been located at this time."
The car involved in the pedestrian fatality was driven by a 41-year-old Ashburn man. Multiple witnesses indicated that the driver was proceeding on a green traffic signal at the time. The driver was not injured in the crash.
The owner of the Honda Civic involved in the hit and run crash was located and determined not to have been involved in the crash, according to deputies. The crash remains under investigation and the search continues for the driver of the Honda Civic.
