Every Wednesday we'll be bringing you a roundup of news to know in government and politics around Fairfax County. Have a look below.

1. Fairfax County’s  Family Caregiver Support Program received a 2013 Best Practices Award from the Commonwealth Council on Aging. The award singles out the program’s "creative and effective approach to serving older Virginians." The county program provides support for the physical and emotional challenges involved with caregiving.

2. Fairfax County’s  Noman M. Cole, Jr., Pollution Control Plant for wastewater treatment received an award for meeting federal pollution control standards 100 percent of the time for 15 years in a row. The National Association of Clean Water Agencies honored nine wastewater treatment plants nationwide this year for 15 years of achievement. The plant removes between 99 and 99.5 percent of pollutants from 67 million gallons of wastewater daily, according to the county.

3. Fairfax County Police are warning residents about  scammers who approach their victims in parking lots. In two separate instances, people have been tricked into withdrawing money from an ATM that was taken from them by two strangers in Home Depot parking lots.

4.  Fairfax County Public Library employees and supporters are trying fighting proposed changes to the staffing structures at libraries. The planned changes would reduce the number of staff members needed to run the county’s libraries but library supporters are worried the changes will mean reduced services for county residents.

5. Virginia’s inspector general is  officially investigating the attorney general office’s role in a federal lawsuit over natural gas royalties and whether a staff member gave advice to energy company lawyers.
