The Del Ray Business Associationmarked the end of the calendar year Monday with a holiday luncheon honoring those who contributed the most in presenting the association’s multitude of community events, including First Thursday street festivals and the Alexandria Turkey Trot.

Megan Brown of Mind the Mat Pilates and Yoga, Captain Doug Schuler of the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office and deputies George Wooden and James Velez, as well as citizen Kevin Jahns all received awards for their efforts.

The students from the Pulley Center at West Potomac High School will be honored for th.

DRBA officers commended Brown for her work coordinating the health and wellness First Thursday and other events.

The Sheriff’s Office received kudos for assisting with crowd control and the setup and breakdown of many community events. Wooden and Velez regularly supervise the department’s inmate work detail.

Jahns, a Del Ray resident, was thanked for his work chipping in with volunteer labor whenever it was required and often on short notice.

The students of the Pulley Center, a vocational school for high school students with special needs, folded all the bags that were utilized at this month’s luminarias ceremony along Mount Vernon Avenue.

DRBA officers also presented President Mellenie Runion with a framed print of Del Ray from Sediment Press for her efforts leading the organization this year. Runion is owner of Truly Life, a purveyor of eco-friendly gifts including soaps and loofahs.
