Former T.C. Williams High School Track Star Killed in Shooting

Former T.C. Williams student and current  Virginia Union University sophomore Kahron M. "Sosa" Lee was shot and killed Sunday night in Richmond, according to the university.

Lee, 20, was All-State in the high jump for both indoor and outdoor track meets in high school and was on the track team at the university. He was from Woodbridge and graduated from high school at T.C. Williams in Alexandria before heading to VUU.

"I can't even express my pain," his mother told WJLA. "I have to bury my firstborn like this...and he was a good kid." The family said they think he was robbed of his cell phone as he was walking, close to midnight Sunday night, to the door of his apartment near the VUU campus.

The student, a Computer Information Systems major, was "tragically taken from the Virginia Union family early this morning," an email from Virginia Union University read. "He was a well-liked person who was active in the campus community. We are working with Richmond police to follow up on every lead and to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to justice."*

Virginia Union organized a Monday afternoon prayer vigil for Lee at the Allix B. James Chapel of Coburn Hall on campus.

"All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend," the university email read. The university made counseling services available to students mourning the death.

Police had not released information about the shooting suspects or a possible motive although the family told the media that they think his cell phone was stolen.

Investigators are looking for the gunman who fired shots near The Birches apartment complex at the corner of W. Graham Rd. and Langston Ave. in Richmond. Three to four people were seen running from the complex immediately after the 11:50 p.m. shooting.

Police are handing out fliers and speaking to residents about what they may have seen or heard on Sunday night, according to police.
